What goes into a proper turf installation?
The lawn you see is the last hour of the job. First the old grass and the top few inches of soil come out, because North Texas black clay holds water and moves with the weather. Then a crushed base goes in, gets shaped to drain away from the house, and is compacted hard. Only then does the turf get rolled, cut to the borders, seamed, nailed and brushed up with infill. Skip the base and the lawn ripples and dips within a year. That groundwork is the same on every job our turf company in Richardson takes on, front yard or back.
Do you sell the turf as well as lay it?
Yes. We supply the turf and we install it, so you are not buying rolls from one place and hunting for a crew somewhere else. We carry different grades and blade heights for different jobs, because the multipurpose lawn a family and a dog share is not the same product as a putting surface or a field. Pile height, blade shape, color blend and backing all change how a lawn wears and how hot it gets. Most home lawns are a two to four day job. Day one is demolition and haul off, day two is base and compaction, and the turf goes down after that. Bigger yards, tight side gates, pool surrounds and anything that needs stone work added take longer, and we tell you the real number before we start rather than after. Weather moves it too, since we will not compact a base in standing water. Does artificial turf drain when Dallas gets a real storm?
It drains faster than the lawn it replaced. The backing is perforated and the base under it is open stone, so rain goes straight down and out instead of sitting on clay. That is why a turf yard is usable the morning after a spring downpour when a natural lawn is still a mud pit. The part that matters is grading, and it is the part a rushed install gets wrong: water has to be pushed away from the house and toward a real outlet. We set the falls during the base stage, and we check them again before the turf ever comes off the roll.

Does artificial turf get too hot in a Texas summer?

How long does artificial turf last?
A properly based lawn lasts many years of normal family use. What kills turf early is a thin or skipped base, poor drainage and bad seams, which is why we spend most of the job under the surface rather than on it.
Can you install turf around trees, beds and stepping stones?
Yes, and most of our jobs do exactly that. Turf gets cut and fixed tight to bed edges, tree rings, stone paths and pool copings, so the finished lawn reads as one clean shape instead of a rectangle dropped in.
Do I need to take out my old grass first?
No, that is part of the job. We strip the existing lawn and the top layer of soil, haul it away, then build the base back up. Laying turf straight over old grass is the shortcut that causes dips and weeds later.
