Residential turf installation

A back yard the whole family can actually use

Most North Texas back yards fight the same three things: shade under mature trees, black clay that bakes hard and then floods, and a summer that runs hot for months. Grass loses that fight every year. Residential turf simply removes it from the equation.

We build home lawns for the way a family lives outside. Room for the dog, a flat run for kids, a clean edge against the patio and pool, and a surface that is dry and playable the morning after rain. Palms Living Oasis is family run, so we design the yard the way we would want ours.

Why do Dallas families switch to turf?

Usually it starts with the water bill and the weekends. A Dallas lawn wants watering through the hottest months, mowing every week, and feeding and patching on top of that, and it still burns out in the shade and along the fence line. Turf ends all of it in one job. That is the everyday version of what our Richardson turf company does, and it is the most common reason the phone rings.

The water side is not small either. Outdoor watering is one of the largest slices of household water use in a hot climate, which is the whole reason the EPA runs its WaterSense program. A turf lawn takes that number close to nothing, and it stays green through a restriction year when everybody else's yard is straw.

Is artificial turf good for dogs?

It is one of the main reasons people call us. Dogs cannot dig it up, they cannot wear a mud track along the fence, and there is no lawn chemical for them to lie in. The build is what makes it work: an open stone base and perforated backing so urine and rain drain straight through instead of pooling, plus an infill that rinses clean. A hose and a stiff brush handle the weekly upkeep. We will ask how many dogs you have and how big they are before we spec the base, because a couple of large dogs change the drainage plan.

What about the strips grass never grows in?

Side yards, the shaded run behind the garage, the strip against a privacy fence, the ring under a big tree. These are the spots that stay bare and muddy no matter what you plant, and they are some of the best turf jobs we do because the improvement is immediate. We cut the turf tight to the fence line, run a gravel or stone border where water needs somewhere to go, and the strip becomes usable instead of embarrassing. The same detailing shows up on our commercial turf installation jobs, where narrow courtyards have exactly the same problem.

Will it still feel like a real yard?

That is the fear, and it is fair. The answer is in the details rather than the product. We keep the lawn shaped, not rectangular, we curve it around beds and trees, we vary blade height to suit the use, and we let real planting, stone and shade do the rest of the work. A turf lawn that is edged into a landscape reads as a lawn. One that is dropped in like a carpet reads as fake, which is why design and installation stay in the same hands on our jobs from the first visit.

Straight answers about artificial turf in North Texas

How do I clean up after my dog on turf?

Pick up solids as you would on grass, then rinse the spot with a hose. The open base and perforated backing carry liquid straight through, so nothing sits on the surface and nothing builds up underneath.

Can you install turf in a shaded back yard?

Shade is one of the best cases for it. Turf does not need light, so the bare patches under trees and along fences finally stay green. We keep the tree roots intact and shape the turf around the ring.

Will artificial turf hurt my pool area?

No, and it usually improves it. Turf keeps grass clippings and mud out of the water, gives you a soft surface to walk on barefoot, and cuts to a clean edge against coping and paving.

Does turf raise or lower my home value?

We will not promise you a number, since that is a market question. What we can say is that a finished, low upkeep back yard shows far better than a patchy one, and it is one of the first things buyers walk out to see.

Is the turf attached to the ground or does it move?

It is fixed. The perimeter is nailed and secured, seams are joined so they do not open, and the infill weighs the surface down. Once it is brushed up it does not shift under normal use.

How soon can we use the yard after installation?

The same day we finish. There is no curing time and nothing to wait on, so once the last brush pass is done the kids and the dog can be on it that afternoon.
